The path to being redefined

Cut yourself out of stone. Be concrete with the version of who you expect to be.

We all fail. We all fail.

Yes – I said it twice for emphasis.

Failure is the best teacher in many respects because we often do not look at our successes as deeply and with an introspective heart or mind.

Everyone needs some failure in life. I am not saying you should be actively trying to fail. That’s not at all what I am saying. That would be crazy.

What I am saying is that in life it is very important to know where the ceiling is. Chasing opportunities to be uncomfortable and to challenge yourself is so critical to growing.

Most people will shy away from adversity, from conflict, and from difficult moments. It is only natural to want to be successful and live comfortably. But that is not TRUTH.

When we chase the ceiling we embrace the idea that we might not be successful all the time. Think of innovators like Edison who failed so many times he lost count. All it took was one success from all that failure and he became a legend. He never gave up. It’s a great trait to own that level of stubbornness.

So I say it’s okay to fail – as long as you use that failure to redefine you and shape the person you are meant to become from that setback. The most successful people I know have failed enough to be humbled, but always come back for more.

That is what makes a person a success.

So get off the couch and do something today. Take steps towards that ceiling! And don’t be afraid to fail. Embrace it because it will happen and you will be okay.

When you fail do you feel deflated or inspired?

What was something you failed at that made you want to try again?
