Do the thing you want to do

You have limited time on this planet. Go forth and be bold. Follow your dream with passion and conviction. Tomorrow might be too late.

All too often we procrastinate. We tell ourselves we will get to it tomorrow or the next day.

We all do this. All of us. No one is exempt from this line of thinking. Some do it more than others. The most successful people I know – do it a lot less than others.

But what if you did not have tomorrow as a guarantee?

This past year I have lost 6 people who I was close with in varying degrees. Some passed at an age that we could wrap our head around – having lived a full life. Some have passed all too young. Regardless of the age of those we have lost – there is still the thought of unfinished business and lost time with these precious souls and their fruitful lives.

There is no doubt that loss helps the living build perspective and a deeper understanding of that awareness of fleeting time. It has given me a chance to ramp up my passions and pursue without hesitation the things I value most in life. Life is way too short. Life is way too fast as well.

Yet there are still moments where I put off some of the things that maybe I should be putting more effort into. I am doing this less lately. I am aware of Time’s power over me.

The reality is we have to recognize that each day of life is a gift. Even if not every single day is magical and amazing – being alive allows us the opportunity to chase the things we are most passionate about.

My top 5 things are as follows:

  1. Faith
  2. Family
  3. Friends
  4. Wrestling
  5. Writing

Notice I never implicitly say the book I wrote. That is a byproduct of my passion for writing. That is also fifth on my list. Before it are four other things that I value more and allow me to be able to have something to actually write about.

Here’s the deal: If you are living a life you don’t love – you probably need to make a list and put it into your priorities. Then you need to start doing things to support that list. Do the things you want to do. Live the way you want to live. That is your priceless. That is your purpose. All things lead back to the items on your list.

Lists help us stay focused, to stay grounded, to stay rooted in love. They provide us with perspective in the simplest way possible and allow us to reevaluate our lives when we fall off track.

Today is the day you make it. Be grateful you are alive and do something that matters to your list! Chase the dream. Be bold and show love to others. Don’t waste your time worrying about things that do not matter or that you cannot change. Find your purpose and pursue it with the passion of a person who might not make it to tomorrow. Live that way and you will reach your goals, be much happier, and lay waste to the things that bog you down.

What is something you feel compelled to do and you have not done it yet?

What is your list of 5 things that keeps you motivated to live better each day?
